It is the most endangered eagle in Poland, still decreasing. It is also about Biebrza Marshes, a wetland complex, located on the Biebrza river valley. It is one of the largest wildlife refuges in Europe.
The book was published as part of LIFE+ Project AQC Plan with support of European Commission.
The Project came to an end in March 2014. After that, we plan further activities to protect Biebrza Marshes and the GSE. This will be mainly:
1. Land purchase. It is important to restore natural water conditions to save species as GSE or Aquatic Warbler. To enhigh water level water in canals we have to own land nerby. This is the most important and expensive task.
2. Continuing nest protection with repelents. Some predators, as Pine Martin are sensitive on spraying nest trees and during the Project there were no situations of chick predation. Before Project survival of chick was about 50%. Nest protection (terpentine, personel cost) cost about 300 EUR per year.
3. Conservation on the migration routes, education in Balkan Region against poaching. Every year, many endangered bird species are killed without any reason, icluding GSE.
4. Promotion activities, e.g. streaming online form the GSE's nest. This needs a technician to employ and cost of server hosting (about 1000 EUR per month, 6 months per year).
