Tickets, visas and hotels have been cleared for processing starting on Monday, 26th September. Sponsored tickets will be only be available through the authorised agents – no cash payments will be made. All sponsored guests will be offered hotel or apartment accommodation throughout the 10-18th December period. If they wish to sleep a night or two at the Desert Camp, this will be possible. Unsponsored companions can also book with the travel agents at the same time but must cover their own costs. For people buying their own tickets, the hotels can be booked through the agents. There will be some limited overnight accommodation for visiting falconers at the Desert Camp, probably in army tents during the period 10-14th December, after which the desert camp will close. Some cheap, shared apartments should be available. If you need a visa you must get onto this urgently. The exact location for the Desert Camp is being decided this week. Shuttle buses will be available to and from the camp. The Desert Camp will be used for training and preparing the birds of prey for the Arena events, for Emirati Falcon flying competitions, for Saluki demonstrations, for preparing the horses and camels and general socialising. It will be a relatively informal venue, giving overseas visitors a chance to acclimatise and experience the desert. Some limited Hawking Trips are still on the agenda, both for hares and for houbara. We cannot guarantee places for everyone but we will do our best to ensure that as many as possible get some desert experience. We expect over 400 sponsored falconers from between 70-80 nations to attend, as well as a large number of unsponsored visitors. We expect 1,000 – 2,000 local falconers and also many local ex-pats to support their own National Camps. They will have volunteer translators for most of the main languages for Meet and Greet and throughout the event. We have lined up about 200 birds of prey specifically for the Festival, of a variety of species. The advanced teams of international specialist trainers start arriving on 25th November to man about 20 eagles and many other species. The Pakistani contingent (who have just had Falconry included on their UNESCO ICH Inventory) plan to bring at least 30 goshawks, some of which will be available on loan for other nations during the event. We also have about 30 trained birds of prey being prepared for the arena events. Most of the event will be organised by the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH) staff who have a lot of experience of running cultural events. An updated list of staffing will be posted shortly. The Photographic and Art Competitions have now been judged and the finalists will be attending with their exhibits. There will also been roaming photographers and film crews at the event to capture scenes on a daily basis. We have moved the Conference Workshops to coincide with the three public days of the festival – 15-17th December to enable more people to attend whatever workshops they wish. The UK office is waiting for high resolution photos from the National Representative to prepare display material for them for their camps. Please forward them as soon as you can to info@falconryfestival.com if you have not already done so.Containers from Mongolia and USA are already organised. Details of the UK container will be finalised next week. The Advisory Committee of the International Association for Falconry and Conservation will hold its meeting during the festival week, as well as the AGM of the IAF. The Falconry Heritage Trust will also hold its AGM during the week. We are looking forward to seeing you all!Dr Nick Fox
