Dear all,This attached announcement provides information on the inaugural workshop of the European ScienceFoundation (ESF) Research Networking Programme, ‘Research and Monitoring for and withRaptors in Europe’ (EURAPMON). The workshop will be held in Sicily from Thursday 7th toSaturday 9th October 2010. The workshop programme is organised by the EURAPMON Chair(G Duke), Steering Committee and Coordinator (P Movalli).The workshop will advance key work-packages of the EURAPMON programme. It will addressscientific considerations and approaches to: inventory of existing raptor monitoring activities inEurope; assessment of user needs (e.g. policy makers, regulatory authorities, conservationpractitioners); spreading best practice; capacity-building; development of a European database,and related reporting and analysis issues.The workshop will bring together leading ecotoxicologists, ornithologists, ecologists andconservation professionals working at the forefront of raptor research and monitoring in Europe,including monitoring of species’ states and trends, monitoring of contaminant and other pressureson raptors, and monitoring of the effectiveness of policy and management measures.The wider aim of EURAPMON is to strengthen the contribution of research andmonitoring for and with raptors in Europe to delivery of biodiversity, environmental andhuman health benefits, including maintenance and recovery of raptor populations andtheir habitats, and reduced chemicals threats to ecosystem and human health.With kind regards,Bernd Meyburg
